In summer 2019, I had the opportunity to participate in a study away program hosted by the graphic design department and the Hoffmitz Milken Center for Typography. We stayed in Berlin for two months and basked in the history and culture of the Bauhaus. At the end of term, we curated, developed, and installed a student exhibition titled Plan B: Spirit of the Bauhaus.
My piece (above) was titled Erasure. I was inspired by Vision in Motion, a book by Bauhaus mentor László Moholy-Nagy, and created a photo essay on the importance of arts education then and now. It was incredible to be a part of this project and to learn about the origin of contemporary graphic design. The exhibition received an American Graphic Design Award by Graphic Design USA in 2019.
